Good news!

Some of you probably already know this, but I am going on to the final stage of the Foreign Service Officer selection process! I'm really lucky to have gotten this far. This means that I will be traveling to DC sometime in May for an oral evaluation which will include a group interaction and an individual interview. As far as I know, I will find out there if I'm hired. That means I really only have one step left! I'm really excited and really nervous all at the same time.
Another piece of news, I will be graduation this coming April. You are all invited to my graduation. It will be on the 23rd and 24th of April (Thursday and Friday). If you can only come to one, come to Friday, that, I believe, is when I will actually be getting my diploma.
Well, I hope to see some of you there!

That is actually not the last step. If you pass the oral assessment, you will get an immediate conditional offer. The conditions are that you pass a security clearance, medical clearance, and suitability review. Those things can take some time.

Once you pass all of those, you are placed on the register, rank ordered by your score and the day you finished the clearance process. So if you get and someone else both get a 5.7 and you get all your clearances finished a day before the other person, you will be ranked one step higher than that person. Then when they have classes, they go down the list, starting with the highest rank, and offer positions in the class.

Good luck with the process. It is definitely an interesting career.

Thanks for that. I of course meant the last step that depended solely on my performance. I was a little fuzzy about the details after the oral assessment, though, so I appreciate the information.
Do you have more information about the suitability review?
